KAURA to Give Away One New Track From New Full-Length CD/DVD

KAURA to Give Away One New Track From New Full-Length CD/DVD, ‘That Which Defines Us’, Each Week Until Release Date, September 20th, 2011

California natives KAURA have just announced that they will be giving away one new track cut from their new full-length CD/DVD, That Which Defines Us, each week up until the release date of September 20th. A new track can be downloaded weekly at www.kaura.bandcamp.com, where the new album can also be streamed in its entirety now.

Produced by singer Malcolm GuessThat Which Defines Us is a testament of dedication, taking over two years to record with the assistance of rock luminaries such as Sylvia Massey (Tool, System of a Down, Danzig), Ken Andrews (Failure, A Perfect Circle) and Michael Romanowski (Dredg).  Central to the album’s sound were instruments that the band collected on their travels to India, Thailand, Bali, Cambodia, Laos, and Nepal.

KAURA (pronounced kay-aura) were born from the vision of infusing the aggressive power of hard, melodic rock with the haunting and ethereal sounds of ancient instruments.  “We were really drawn to the sounds of these instruments because they are not traditionally heard in modern rock music,” explains guitarist Ben Rojas. Drummer  Benjamin Jones adds, “We have always strived to create our own unique voice and incorporating these instruments helps us do that and create a really expansive depth of sound.”

The DVD portion of the set includes two music videos directed by drummer Benjamin Jones for the songs ‘Ephemeral Fall’ and ‘Silence Speaks Louder’.  It also features an hour long ‘Making of the Album’, and footage of the band’s adventures collecting instruments during their travels.

Entrails Returns with The Tomb Awaits on September 9

You’ve been waiting for this one! If you thought Entrails‘ Tales from the Morgue was one of the best old school Swedish death metal releases of 2010 (and many of you did), then be prepared to crown The Tomb Awaits king for 2011. The album is set for a September 9th release on Dark Descent Records in North America and on FDA Rekotz in Europe. Once again mixed and mastered by the legendary Dan SwanoThe Tomb Awaits also features guest vocals by Swano and cover art by Daniel Devilish. Expect nothing less than festering, rotten death metal. Remember, The Tomb Awaits….

INFO:

Formed in 1991, Entrails were largely inactive until 2008 when it released a couple of demo tapes worth of material that was originally written in the early 90s. In 2010, Entrails hit the studio and recorded, what was their first full-length album titled Tales from the Morgue.

Honest, true, HM-2 Swedish death metal, Tales from the Morgue was highly acclaimed and exposed Entrails to a large audience. Additionally, Tales from the Morgue also proved that Entrails were not just some retro-Swedish  death metal band, but the real deal.

The Tomb Awaits tracklisting:

Unleashed with Wrath

Crawling Death

Contributors comments:

Phil Collins  a long-term Martyn collaborator playing on John’s Grace and Danger (1980) and Glorious Fool (1981) albums, says: “John Martyn was unique. Completely unique. He had such power, such emotion, in his music that he could overwhelm the listener even when it was just him and an acoustic guitar.

He gave ‘Tearing and Breaking’ to me as he didn’t know what to do with it. It consisted of the chorus melody and not much else really. Proud of collaborating with him, I wrote the rest, but never considered it my song.

It was his song on loan to me. I loved him very much as there was no half measures, literally and musically. I hope people remember him and his music always.”

Robert Smith comments “I first heard ‘Small Hours’ on the John Peel Show late in 1977 and fell instantly in love with it… ‘One World’ very quickly became my favourite John Martyn album… And these beautiful songs were, are and always will be an inspiration and an enchantment”

David Gray says “John Martyn was a true pioneer within the world of acoustic music. As a writer he was a master of understatement, who always managed to conjure songs that were deeply poetic, whilst using only the simplest words and phrases. Entering into his music, is like finding another place to be…”

Beth Orton suggests that “John Martyn was the very first folktroniker if ever there was one”

Judy Tzuke reveals that ‘Solid Air’ is still my favourite album ever. I have done versions of both ‘May You Never’ and ‘Head and Heart’ on my own albums and was so happy to be asked to contribute to this tribute album”.

Bio:

Singer/songwriter/guitarist John Martyn was born Iain David McGeachy on September 11, 1948. He began his innovative and expansive career at the age of 17 with a style influenced by American blues artists like Robert Johnson and Skip James, the traditional music of his homeland, and the eclectic folk of Davey Graham.

With the aid of his mentor, traditional singer Hamish Imlach, Martyn began to make a name for himself and eventually moved to London, where he became a fixture at Cousins, the centre for the local folk scene that spawned the likes of Bert Jansch, Ralph McTell and Al Stewart. Soon after, he caught the attention of Island Records founder Chris Blackwell who made him the first white solo act to join the roster of his reggae-based label.

The subsequent album London Conversation (February 1968), only hinted at what was to come in Martyn’s career. Although it contained touches of blues along with Martyn’s rhythmic playing and distinctive voice, it was for the most part a fairly straightforward British folk record. With his follow-up later that same year, The Tumbler (produced by Al Stewart), Martyn began to flesh out his sound and encompass more jazzy elements.

Subsequent recordings such as Bless The Weather (1971) and Solid Air  (1973) helped form the foundation of Martyn’s fan base and featured some of his most mature and enduring songs: “Solid Air,” written for close friend Nick Drake, “May You Never”(recorded by Eric Clapton and “Head and Heart” (recorded by America). Other seminal works include Inside Out (1973),Sunday’s Child (1974), Grace and Danger (1980), Glorious Fool (1981), Well Kept Secret (1982) and Philentropy (1983).

Fine Cuts: The Best Of MARMALADE out on Salvo on September 5th.

Best known for their UK number 1 cover of The Beatles ‘Ob-La-Di, Ob-La Da’ and the major US hit ‘Reflections Of My Life’, the Best of Marmalade set is packed with numerous extras. The album comes fully remastered for the finest possible sound quality. Presented in a stylish double digi-pack with 12-page booklet, it contains rare photographs plus a comprehensive overview of Marmalade’s career written by band members Jnr (William) Campbell and Dean Ford.

Scottish group Marmalade formed originally formed in 1961 and are best known for their UK number one cover of the The Beatles ‘Ob-La-Di, Ob-La Da’ and the major US hit ‘Reflections Of My Life’.

These hits are featured on their new album “Fine Cuts” , which showcases a total of 45 tracks, also including I See The Rain’, ‘Cousin Norman’, ‘My Little One’ and many more…

Anyone who ever heard Marmalade play at clubs like the Marquee would know that there is a lot more to Marmalade than the hits ‘Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da’ and ‘Reflections of My Life’.

Here we find 45 tracks which typify what ‘The Marms’ were all about. There are some great rock tracks like Graham’s ‘Empty Bottles’ and ‘Can You Help Me (very much influenced by the style of Crosby, Stills & Nash / Santana, etc who were everyone’s heroes in the late ‘60’s).

There are also some lovely soft-rock titles that really show off the vocal harmonies, and a great version of Dylan’s ‘I Shall be Released’. Fine Cuts is the Best Of Marmalade!”

Junior Campbell – 2011

“We were influenced by many types of music and through all of our recordings runs the thread of quality musicianship. We had some fun times as a group and some of it I still remember. I hope you enjoy “Fine Cuts” as much as I did.”

Baby Monster announces details of their debut album.

Baby Monster is an electronic pop group comprised of Danny Sternbaum and Marty Larson Xu. The duo is pleased to announce details of their forthcoming self-titled debut album due out 27 June 2011. The pair will be giving away a free track each week in the lead up to the release via online media partners. The first track debuted on Big Stereo – the band’s recent singles label home.

For the past 18 months, the band have been juggling laying down album tracks with opening shows for Klaxons, Miike Snow and Metric. In true D.I.Y fashion, everything on the forthcoming album has been written, recorded, produced and mixed by the band themselves. Drawing from 80′s acts such as New Order, as well as 90′s shoegaze and brit pop bands, the record explores the concept of the past, present and future all folding together into one moment. There is an underlying romanticism that soaks through the songs that is countered with an element of dark dreaminess; more upbeat tracks such as Charlie Sunrise and Mr Success sit comfortably next to low-fi gems such as Russian Lights and Kalookan Queen.

Check out the new BABY MONSTER video:

‘The Fear of Charlie Sunrise’

The band has remixed tracks from Gorillaz, Ellie Goulding, Zero7, Wolf Gang, Foster the People and Miami Horror. Previous singles came in the form of limited edition 7 inches ‘Ultraviolence + Beethoven’ on 50 Bones Records + ‘She Comes Alive’ on Big Stereo Records.
