WuLi Records’ THE REDD Releases Part 1 of the Upcoming Full-Length Album

WuLi Records’ THE REDD Releases Part 1 of the Upcoming Full-Length Album, ‘Get It In Blood’– Four-Song Bundle Available Now

Chicago, IL hip-hop artist THE REDD and WuLi Records are pleased to announce the release of a four-song bundle– essentially part one of THE REDD’s upcoming full-length album, Get It In Blood. The bundle is available today, and features the tracks ‘Fire’, ‘Hush’, ‘My Dough’, and ‘Mi Amor’.

A video was filmed for the track ‘Fire’ and features the WuLi Records in-house band of founders Louis Svitek and Ryan McGuire, as well as Troy Gourley and Chicago’s Relly Rell on vocals. A making-the-video bit can be viewed on YouTube at this link, and a trailer is available here. Fans can purchase the album at iTunes and Amazon now.

THE REDD boasts classic hip-hop swagger and carefully blends old school grooves, rhythmic tribal elements, straight up rock and occasionally, some Latin flavor. The result is a perfect backdrop for the hard, in-your-face rapping that THE REDD has pioneered. His rhymes are timeless and wise beyond his years, and his powerful rapping, resonant voice and musical expression create a distinct niche.

THE REDD’s influences go far beyond the standard rap genre, ranging from rap to metal, blues to soul, and R&B to reggae.

THE REDD has performed with some of hip-hop’s biggest legends, including Ice Cube, Vanilla Ice, Twista, and the late legend Guru, a member of the hip-hop duo Gang Starr. THE REDD has credits on the soundtrack for the critically acclaimed movie, Blue Hill Avenue, directed by Craig Ross Jr., and starring Allen Payne.

Press Quotes…

“We think the album shows great promise and wish you all the best success for the future” – Lauren Gregory (PA to Bryan Ferry)

“Ian Bel’s “Teenage Vision” is a great blast of jittery pop. Bel sings it in a nervous Bryan Ferry voice and the pounding piano musical bed brings Roxy Music’s glory days immediately to mind. Adam Lambert may be American Idol’s sham version of glam music, but Ian Bel is the real deal!” Dan MaciIntosh - http://www.indie-music.com

“Artists like Ian Bel don’t come around everyday. He has an incredible voice with suitably impressive music.  Combining the two has resulted in some truly epic music!” – Dave Brady, Epic Radio Director – Epic Radio - http://www.epicradio.net

Short Biography…

The man behind the name grew up on a tiny farm not far from Oslo, Norway’s capital and claims to have begun making music “at the height of 100 cm”.

Ian was heavily influenced by a classical pianist mother and folk musician father and by the sounds of a distant relative – legendary Norwegian violinist and composer Ole Bull – echoing down the family bloodline.

Ian sang in a choir, excelled on the piano and guitar – and proved that violin virtuosity is not a genetic certainty – before forming a number of bands during the 90s. In 1997 he cut his first independent album, the gothic Mr Government. Six years later he founded UNO Record Company as a small indie label.

He has also composed theme music for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation nation and written a humorous children’s book Martha Martha. His many live performances include a 2008 charity concert for Africa inspired by the UN Millennium Development goals.

Ian’s latest production is Fake Factory, a concept album based on a self-penned book about the media industry, is available NOW.

EVILE and TURISAS added to DAMNATION FESTIVAL 2011

English thrashers EVILE and Finnish folk metallers TURISAS are the latest names added to the DAMNATION FESTIVAL 2011 bill.
The duo – who will play the Jagermeister Stage at Leeds University Union on Saturday, November 5 - are joined by the progressive death of XERATH and a unique, one-off showing of A MAN CALLED CATTEN performing a Medulla Nocte set.

Paul Catten said: ”After listening to the Medulla Nocte albums for the first time in many years, I knew I had to play these songs one last time.
A Man Called Catten is a tribute to this material, and my chance to do them justice…playing them as they were meant to be played; live, fast and very loud. I’m ecstatic to be able to perform them at Damnation where I have great memories from previous performances, and this is the one and only time you will hear a set comprising of nothing but Nocte tracks. Relive your youth…the fucking Cat is back!”

Festival director Gavin McInally added: ”Evile opened Damnation Festival when we still called Manchester home and following their meteoric rise – which is sure to continue with their new album – it’s fantastic to finally have them back at the festival, adding a much needed dose of thrash.

Turisas will no doubt be a surprise addition to many fans but when men with swords tell you they need a home for a night, you throw open your doors! We’re looking forward to a battle with some beers at Damnation as they trek across the country on their UK tour.

Xerath are a certain to kick-off proceedings in style while the prospect of seeing Paul Catten tearing through Medulla Nocte classics at his vicious best is going to leave the rest of the Terrorizer Stage with a difficult set to follow!

Tickets are on sale, priced £29 and are available from See TicketsTicketline and Leeds Tickets
Tickets are also now available the official Damnation site and Facebook via Ticketscript

POLY STYRENE NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO

POLY STYRENE NEW SINGLE GHOULISH AND VIDEO released 08 AUGUST 2011 via FUTURE NOISE MUSIC

-

Although music lost one of its most uniquely idiosyncratic legends when Poly Styrene tragically succumbed to cancer in April, she had thankfully finished recording her Generation Indigo album before being diagnosed, thus providing the 21st century with one of its defining statements, in similar fashion to her uncannily clairvoyant X-Ray Spex missives of the punk era.

Following first single ‘Virtual Boyfriend’, from the album comes the rapturous ‘Ghoulish’; sadly Poly’s first posthumous single.
‘Ghoulish’ is one of the outstanding results of the torrential creative relationship which sparked between Poly and producer Youth, here hot-wiring New York’s 60s girl group sound with sparkling future-sheen and swooping sonic sheets to produce a new strain of spectacular, 21st century pop music. The song beautifully represents Poly’s compassionate spirit and lifelong talent for tackling unusual but glaring subject matter, often fuelled by her fixation with watching the TV news. ‘Ghoulish’ was inspired by Michael Jackson, seeing through his ‘crimson lips ‘n‘ charcoal eyes‘ to declare, ‘I can see you’re quite a nice guy’. Speaking before the album’s release, Poly explained how she had found Jacko‘s white face and makeup ghoulish, but “I could see that he was probably a nice guy…I never met him, but he seemed soft-spoken and gentle. It was all over the media and I thought I would write that song, but it could be about any goth guy.

In something of a coup, the single version comes with a killer remix from New York’s renowned Hercules & Love Affair, aka Andy Butler, who drapes Poly’s vocals over an exquisite Moroder-meets-acid house super-groove, with cliff-hanger drop and voluptuous peaks. The fact that one of dance music’s most revered names can obviously revel in turning what started as one of Poly’s observations into a post-apocalyptic disco anthem speaks further volumes about the lady who started as the original punk misfit and now rests alongside the all-time greats.

The video for ‘Ghoulish’ is replete with Michael Jackson impersonators, some more comical than others, as Michael was the inspiration for the song. The video, directed by Lauryn Siegel, also features actress Gabby Hoffman.

Pope Joan is dead! Introducing Black Black Hills.

Introducing Black Black Hills

Due to the gradual changes that band’s sound has undergone, Brighton’s Pope Joan has become Black Black Hills. The band’s line-up will remain the same; the name change shows the natural progression of their sound, which has seen a greater emphasis on a darker, electronic sound.

Singer Samuel Aaron says: “We found that how we sounded and our approach had changed so much that it felt right to change the name. The name Black Black Hills is a better reflection of the way we now sound.

Black Black Hills’ sound incorporates roomy, drum heavy sounds, mixed with electronic noises and samples while evoking organic imagery of land and dirt. This new approach to their sound and energy is represented superbly by the short film to accompany their single ‘The Celebration’, made by 2009 UK Music Video Award Nominees Blac Ionica. The dark and unnerving video is a modern pastiche of folklore and pagan ceremonies, which unrelentingly builds tension, drawing on a mysterious and sinister obsession with the unknown.

‘The Celebration’ short film can be seen at http://youtu.be/Y4Ql_cf72xU

The band will continue to record and perform under their new moniker.

Black Black Hills’ debut single ‘The Celebration’ is available now.

The band are also currently giving away an mp3 of live favourite ‘Billy’s Bride’ over on their facebook page -http://www.facebook.com/blackblackhills.

“11 tracks bristling with fist-pumping, face-melting heavy metal at its finest… Overall, I would go as far as saying that this is one of the most ‘complete’ heavy metal albums I have heard in recent times. Not only does it have elements that fans of a variety of sub-genres can relate to, but it combines them excellently well to result in a very cohesive, well-rounded album. Whether you’re a fan of traditional metal stalwarts like Iron Maiden, groove metal heavyweights like Pantera and Lamb of God, Megadeth-esque technical thrash metal, death metal, or even power metal, you will most definitely enjoy this album.”9.5 out of 10 MetalAssault.com

Øya festival is the largest outdoor music festival in Oslo, the capital of Norway and one of the most discerning in Europe.

Øya is held in a medieval park, a picturesque spot surrounded by sandy beaches, the Oslo Fjords, the green Ekeberg Hill and the Oslo skyline.  Rooted deep in history, the medieval park is also the place where the capital of Norway was founded a thousand years ago. For 4 days in the middle of August, the Medieval Park in Oslo is transformed into an arena for musical, visual and cross-cultural performances. The Øya Festival is an energetic and symbiotic experience with a unique atmosphere and audience that bares resemblance to no other.

Amidst the festival area of trees, green grass and water, the festival is well equipped with stages, shopping streets and small shops serving food (almost 100% organic and locally sourced) and drink. The site creates an exciting rendezvous between nature and culture, being just a short walk from the city centre of Oslo.

Øya Festival is officially recognised as one of the greenest festivals in Europe, having won the “Greenest Festival in Europe” at the European Festival Awards 2010 and also the ”Green ’n’ Clean” award.
